Budha Purnima is celebrated in many countries of Asia which marks the birth of Prince Siddhartha Gautama popularly known as Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. The day is celebrated in Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Nepal, Korea, Indonesia, Laos, and Malaysia. The birth of Buddha usually falls on the full moon day and it varies as per Asian solar lunisolar calendars. Every year Budha Purnima falls in the month of April-May. However, during leap year, it shifts to the month of June.
According to Buddhist writing, Buddha was born in Lumbini, Nepal in the year 623 BC and it is believed that at the age of 35 he attained enlightenment underneath a Bodhi tree and Bodhgaya.
This year it is believed that after three years a good combination of Siddhi Yoga is created on the auspicious occasion of Vaishakha Purnima. According to Ujjain’s astrologer Pt. Amar Dabbawala, on this day the Moon of the Swati Nakshatra and Libra zodiac will provide prosperity and splendor. On this day if donations to poor are done, Swati Nakshatra will provide will provide virtue in 27 constellations. Its lord is Vayudev. Likewise, the lord of Siddhi yoga is Ganesha, which is to provide fulfillment in all kinds of work. Libra will increase the glory of the moon. On Monday, on the full moon day, this Somvati will also be called the full moon.
