Liverpool full-back Alberto Moreno has been ruled out of Sunday’s Merseyside derby at Anfield amid fears that he’s facing an extended spell on the sidelines.
The Spanish defender limped off just before half-time during Wednesday night’s 7-0 thrashing of Spartak Moscow in the Champions League
Moreno has damaged a tendon in his left ankle but specialists aren’t yet sure about the extent of the injury.
The 25-year-old, who has resurrected his Anfield career this season, will be assessed again over the coming days.
He’s in danger of missing Liverpool’s entire festive programme.
Asked about Moreno, boss Jurgen Klopp said: “Not sure. We need to have further assessment.
“So far it could be everything. I cannot say much about it.
“It’s a very rare thing. So far the specialists aren’t sure. Not Everton, but if it’s in a week or so or a little bit longer we have to wait for that. There’s a little damage around the tendons.”
In Moreno’s absence, Klopp must choose between James Milner and Andy Robertson to start against the Blues on Sunday.
