Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal feature in our end-of-season awards

Tournament win of the year

Roger Federer has won two Grand Slams and so has Rafael Nadal – so they both have good shouts to win this.

But no. We’re giving it to Serena Williams.

Last January, on the eve of the Australian Open, Serena handed her fiance Alexis Ohanian a paper bag containing six positive pregnancy tests.

But would she pull out the Australian Open? Of course not.

She reached the final, met sister Venus before winning it  in straight sets.

Miss of the year

Okay, so he has won two Grand Slams but that doesn’t stop Mr Federer taking this one.

Playing Jack Sock at the O2, Federer was greeted with the whole court to put away an easy winner.

Why? Because Sock had given up – and he proceeded to turn round and offer his backside as a target for the Swiss.

What happens was near-on unthinkable as the unflappable Federer dumped his forehand into the net.

He joked about Sock’s rear after: “That’s what I should have aimed for. That target was bigger than the down-the-line court that I had.”

Miss of the year runner-up

There are bad misses – then there’s this from Borna Coric.

Coric is 21 and is considered one of the best young players on the planet.

Not at the Vienna Open, though. He had the easiest put away you could think of at the net – with the whole court to aim for.

He revved up for a big smash only to somehow hit it long. One to forget, Borna (but you’ll need to see a hypnotist to do so).

Emerging player of the year

Alexander Zverev is only 20 but in 2017 he won two Masters 1000 titles to rise to world No 4.

When Federer and Nadal call it a day, he could well be the man to replace them.

The Golden Oldie of the year

Federer is 36 and has won two Grand Slams. Nadal is five years younger at 31 and he too has won two Slams.

But we’re going for Venus Williams. For a start she’s older than the other two at 37.

Before this year, It had been eight years since Venus has reached the final in a Slam.

Although in 2017 she did so twice. She made the final in Australia, and the final at Wimbledon.

That helped her qualify for the WTA end-of-season championships, where she reached the final too.

Rant of the year

There are plenty of options. Nick Kyrgios and Fabio Fognini lead the way but it’s going to Daniil Medvedev.

The young Russian enjoyed a fine Wimbledon, knocking out Stan Wawrinka in the first round. Except then it turned sour.

Medvedev found himself in hot water when he reacted angrily to a series of controversial calls during his defeat to Ruben Bemelmans.

He asked the court supervisor to remove Mariana Alves as umpire then emptied his wallet of loose change on the court when he lost. Oops.

Worst dressed of the year

There are no words. See below. Congratulations go to Andy Murray.
