New Delhi, January 15: India is celebrating 72nd Army Day on Tuesday, January 15. The day is observed to commemorate Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa’s taking over as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian armed forces from General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India in 1949. The Army Day parade took place at Carriapa Ground in Delhi. General Monoj Mukund Naravane took salute from the marching contingent. Captain Tania Sher Gill, a fourth-generation woman army officer, led an all men contingent and broke a glass ceiling. Prime Narendra Modi in his wishes on Army Day lauded the Indian Army personnel who Army personnel from Chinar Corps division who walked for four hours while an expecting mother was being carried on stretcher through snow.
