During the second day of the ongoing Test match between Australia and New Zealand at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, New Zealand player Henry Nicholls displayed an outstanding effort as he took an absolute one-handed screamer to dismiss Australia’s Steve Smith packing for 79 runs.
It was not that easy to take a catch especially at the gully region but Nicholls made it look so. He managed to grab it in his fingertip and he deftly did it with ease. The wonderful moment took place on the fourth ball of the 105th over when Smith was trapped in a terrible position while facing a bouncer from New Zealand pacer Neil Wagner. In the process, Wagner eventually got the big fish, Steve Smith.
With Steve Smith in no position to duck the ball during that delivery, he had no other option but to glove it to Nicholls at gully. Seeing this, Nicholls held his nerves and timed his jump to perfection to take a stunner.
Steve Smith ended up scoring 85 (242) on the back of eight fours and a six. It is also worth mentioning that Steve Smith was dismissed by Wagner on all three occasions in the series so far.
“✈ We have takeoff! ✈ A flying Henry Nicholls takes a screamer in the gully to remove Steve Smith!,” Cricket Australia posted the video on its official Twitter handle while praising Henry Nicholls for taking a stunner in the gully to dismiss Australia’s best batsman.
