The festival is celebrated in Odisha, Jharkhand and parts of Eastern India. Ratha Yatra is celebrated internationally in countries like Dublin, Moscow and New York. The observance commemorates Jagannath’s visit to Gundicha Temple through Mausi Maa temple in Puri. The ritual is held every in the Hindu month of Ashadha which corresponds with the Hindu months of June or July. The chariots of the deities are newly built every year which is called Nandighosa. The chariot of Balabhadra is called Taladhwaja and that of Subhadra is called Dwarpadalana.
