This winter seems to have lasted forever! And sufferers of the winter blues all need comfort food.
We have loads of amazing restaurants in Birmingham at any time of the year. But there are also those particular venues where you can enjoy some true comfort classics – from hearty pies, good old fashioned fish and chips, a good curry and the best pizza outside Italy!
Time to wrap up warm and insulate yourself well with the best comfort grub in Brum.
The Indian Streatery
The Indian Steatery offers great Indian comfort food classics such as chole butura – chickpea curry with fried puffy bread and palak paneer. But we must also give special mention to their meaty masala fries. Fries smothered with minced lamb, red onions and yogurt minty sauce. Absolutely delicious. Veggie option masala fries are also available.

The pie tasting board, Old Joint Stock
What’s more comforting than a nice pie? Three nice pies!
The Old Joint Stock serves up a variety of pies served with mash, veg and rich gravy or traditional pie liquor for £13.75.
But for something truly comforting we recommend their ale and pie tasting board. Three mini pies with three award winning Fuller’s ales to sup.
Pies included are steak & London Pride ale pie, the creamy root vegetarian pie and five spiced duck and cranberry pie.
This Victorian pub will make you feel like you’ve gone back in time and back to hearty basics.

This hidden gem of an Italian restaurant serves comfort food of the highest quality.
You can’t beat a good pizza and Gustami’s margherita really is a fantastic slice of comfort heaven. If you don’t fancy pizza then you really can’t get more comforting than diving into a bowl of pasta can you?

Hotel du Vin
If you’re in the mood for some luxurious comfort food in cosy bistro surroundings then treat yourself to a French classic, washed down with a glass of red, naturellement.
Choose from Beef bourguignon, grilled Toulouse sausage with pommes frites and onion jus or how about a hearty bowl of boulabaisse – a traditional Provencal fish stew including red mullet, monkfish, seabass and prawns. Bon appetit Brum.

You cannot beat a big fat juicy burger when it comes to comfort food and they don’t get much juicier than The Meat Shack burgers.
The Meat Shack had been smashing it at street food markets for five years before opening a permanent joint in Chinatown last year.
The Meat Shack burger method is to cook them so they retain moisture -hence the tag line ‘filthy dripping goodness’. We highly recommend the Mr C – aged beef patty, American cheese, iceberg lettuce, red onion, pickle, ketchup, shack sauce.
